Following is a partial listing of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Cochran No. 1 Mine 9Tinsmil No. 1 Mine) & Cochran No. 2 Mine Tinsmill No. 2 Mine), Tinsmill, Bell Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.  The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous mines.

(Injured. Back and hip bruised by fall of slate in his room.  He neglected to set posts, in the Cochran No. 1 Mine, March 23, 1910.)

(Polish Miner, Machine Miner ca.1916, Cochran No. 1 Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 34, married.);
(Injured.  Leg fractured by a fall of slate at the face of a room, in the Cochran No. 1 Mine, Aug. 18, 1916.)
Pesci, John P.
(Miner, ca.1945, Cochran Mines, Westmoreland Co., PA, married, wife Mrs. Prusack Pesci.);
(Injured.  He was injured severely, his pelvis was crushed, leg shattered,  and other bones broken,  when the roof came down onto him, in the Cochran Mine, Oct. 1945. He was thought to be dead and a retrieval of the body was made in which a bar was used to pry the rock from atop him. One of these bars punched a hole in his head. Amazingly, he survived the ordeal and was hospitalized for 5 years. He came home on crutches on Easter Sunday of 1951 and slipped on the ice entering his house only to return to the hospital. Over the years he had some 15 operations and developed ostiomialitus, which was somewhat abated with the use of antibiotics in the 1970's.);

(Killed.  Fatally injured by being squeezed between a mine car and coal rib on the main haulage road.  He had been on a loaded mine car of a motor trip, and was put off by the breakman. While he attempted to get on again he was injured, in the Cochran No. 1 Mine, May 8, 1907.)
