(August 8, 1906, Michael Sampson and Verelo Sampson, Polish, miners, while on their way home on the traveling way in the Alexandria Mine, were struck by part of a runaway trip of cars and killed.  George Brown was employed on the slope near No. 3 entry, right, which had been abandoned, and saw the Sampson brothers, Joseph Parrok, Joseph Cobin and Feelix Green come down the slopeand turn into this entry on their way home.  A trip of forty loaded carswas ascending the slope and had reached a point about 600 or 700 feet above the entry when a coupling broke, allowing seventeen of the cars to run back.  The drag on the rear end failed to derail them.  Hearing the cars coming back, Brown turned the switch at this entry half way for the purpose of wrecking the cars and preventing them from going down to the main siding, where he knewseveral persons were.  He ran into No. 3 entry, right, to save himself and called to the Sampson brothers and those with them to look out, that a trip had broken loose on the slope.  All of them started to get further away from the slope.  The cars left the track at the switch, but the momentum carried them into No. 3 entry, right, for a considerable distance, where they crashed against a coal pillar, killing the Sampson brothers.)
