A Memorial to the Coal Miners that Worked the Robbins Mine

Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Robbins Mine, near Scott Haven, Westmoreland Co., PA.   The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

Since 1870, Pennsylvania's Annual Report on Mining Activities has recorded 51,483 deaths from mining accidents-- 31,113 deaths in anthracite mines and 20,370 deaths in bituminous mines.

Charlesworth, Solomon
(Miner, ca.1982, Robbins Mine, Age 62, married.);
(Injured.  Back severely injured by a fall of slate, in the Robbins Mine, June 25, 1892.)

Darr, Nicholas
(Miner, ca.1892, Robbins Mine, Age 35, single.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of slate:  it appeared that he had been knocking coal when the accident occurred and had not set a post under the slate.  The driver went into his room for the mine wagon and found him dead under about a ton of slate, in the Robbins Mine, Sept. 7, 1892.)

Enercco, Peter
(Miner, ca.1892, Robbins Mine, Age 35, married, 4 children.);
(Killed.  Instantly killed by a fall of slate;  at the time of the accident he was drilling a hole to fire a blast.  There being a considerable quantity of slate up and no post set under it.  He was killed by his own neglect, in the Roobins Mine, Dec. 20, 1892.)
