Following is a partial list of the miners, mine employees and company store employees that worked the Sewickley Mine, Arona, Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania.  The coal miners names have been researched and complied from various sources by Raymond A. Washlaski, Historian: newspaper obits, newspaper articles, Pennsylvania Bureau of Mines Reports, township histories, and names of coal miners submitted by various people, etc..
The Nationalities listed for various miners, are taken directly from "Report of the Department of Mines of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, PA" as reported for the various years.  Those listed as American, could be either native born or naturalized citizens.

(Killed.  Suffocated by after-damp of an explosion of gas and coal dust at face of room.  They were cutting a room with a chain coal-cutting or mining machine and heard a noise under and around the machine, which was explosive gas being liberated from the bottom.  The gas was ignited from the open lights they used, and this was greatly intensified by the coal dust held in suspension in the air, causing a local explosion.  Before any one could reach them they had perished, in the Sewickley Mine, Jan. 29, 1909.)

(Injured.  Leg fractured. While passing his mule, which was standing on the side track alongside of the air motor, the mule and the motor started, and the tail chain caught Kelly's ankle and drew his foot in front of motor wheels, in the Sewickley Mine, Nov. 12, 1909.)
Kilday, Peter
(Scotch Miner, Roadman ca.1901, Sewickley Mine, Westmoreland Co., PA, Age 28, married, 2 children.);
(Killed. Run over by mine cars, in the Sewickley Mine, Jan. 14, 1901.  Instantly killed, by having been struck by a trip of loaded mine cars on the main haulage road, in the Sewickley Mine.  Kilday in company with two other roadmen, were returning to their work by way of the haulage road.  On reaching a point about two hundred yards inside of the mine mouth they met the trip.  Smith stepped off to the right side, Shotts jumped into a shelter hole on the left and Kilday attempted to follow Shotts but was not quick enough and was struck by the trip and dragged about one hundred yards before it could be stopped.  He was found under the fourth wagon.)
